Research the topic of the Role of the U.S. Federal Government in Health Care.
Answer:
What role should the government play in providing Americans with health care??
The United States of America is a vast country with one of the largest populations worldwide. In order to be able to manage such a population, health care plays a big role, in addition affordable health care is equally important thus many companies try to provide premiums for their employees to be able to have access to affordable health care. According to the PBS news hour broadcast: (Why the U.S. pays more for health care than the rest of the world) (YouTube, 0.22) it is evident that despite help from the government health care is extremely expensive in America. But what happens to the population that doesnt have the luxury of benefiting from employee benefits that include health care? Well we can take a guess, however the responsibility of a countries population should fall in the hands of the government, thus the government should play an important role in providing Americans with a health care system that not only is affordable but also accessible to everyone.
In the article: Changes in Marketplace premiums 2017-2018, we notice extreme increases in premium health care prices. For example the article states In 17 of the 32 regions, the lowest-priced silver plan was offered by an insurer that previously operated only in the Medicaid market but entered the private market because of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). (Changes in Market place premiums, P.8) What this indicates is due to the? Elimination of Federal Reimbursements of Cost-Sharing Reductions (Changes in Market place premiums, P.2) insurers will have to increase their costs to meet the demanding cost of medical inflation. In response, the article: How have providers responded for increased demand for healthcare under the affordable care act by Jane B. Wishner and Rachel A. Burton. Health care providers have taken it upon themselves to assist roughly 20 million uninsured people with health insurance (p.2) as the demand for health care services increased, providers responded by expanding their staff, including hiring more advanced practice clinicians (such as nurse practitioners) and care coordinators; opening new or expanding existing health care sites; and/or extending
their office hours. (p.2). Americans sense the urgency in the demand for health care and are abiding by the necessary laws to make sure it is accessible to everyone. In conclusion and in my final shared article: States Expanding Medicaid See Significant Budget Savings and Revenue Gains?we can see how and why the role of the government is important. States such as Michigan and Kentucky saved almost $200 million in behavioral health programs when they transitioned to Medicaid (States Expanding Medicaid See Significant Budget Savings and Revenue Gains, P.4) Furthermore we saw and increase in revenue as Six of the 11 states and the District of Columbia highlighted in this report (Arkansas, California, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, and Washington state) found that expansion increased state revenue from existing assessments on insurers and providers. (States Expanding Medicaid See Significant Budget Savings and Revenue Gains, P.5) Thus all proving that government assistance in our health care system is beneficial and can be sustainable for a country with a population this size.
