Study of Leadership Research Discussion
After graduating from Northeastern University, I hope that I can enter some international companies. No matter where the company is. I hope that I can have more experience in social to have a greater challenge in my life. When I was 35 years old, I hope that I can go back to my country, Taiwan.
There are several reasons. First, due to my parents, both of them are getting older, I hope I can stay with them and take care of them. Second, my parents have found a local company. I think I have the responsibility to take over the company.
Now I am going to discuss my SWOT analysis based on the megatrends.
Strengths
The digital era and technology convergence. In nowadays, we are living in the world without technology. In the eastern world, the elder generation can’t get used to using the technology. Fortunately, in our generation, we always use the internet, digital products and so on. In addition, I am also easy to accept new technology. I think this will be a strength for me in the future.
Individualization/Pluralism. Now, I am studying in the USA which means I have met so many people who are from different cultures. I know how to cooperate with people from different countries. I believe this will be a strength for my future.
Weakness
Technology convergence. In my personal opinion, I think I don’t have so many professional skills in technology, I mean I don’t know how to develop or what skills I need to have. I think in nowadays, this will become a weakness.
Globalization 2.0. Clearly, now I am only a student. I don’t think that I really know the true meaning of ”globalization” Of course, I always abstract the information from every resource, like the internet and news, but I don’t think that is enough for me to really understand globalization. I hope that I can overcome the weakness after this course.
Opportunities
Technology convergence. Due to COVID-19, I have more time to spend. I can improve my technology skills and other skills that I think I need to improve.
Globalization 2.0. Because COVID-19 just lets us stay in the house, we have more time to read the information from all around the world. I think using this way can help me know to improve my knowledge and intuition to the world trend.
Threaten
Environmental crisis. I think the environmental issue will become a really serious topic in nearly future. Not only about the environment but also weather and resource will become tougher.
Like some scientists have predicted that the gas will be empty in 50 years. Some climatologists have predicted that the extreme climate will influence humans in the near future. Even like COVID-19 is also a serious environmental issue that influences to humans’ life. I think this will be a strong threat to the world and the economy.

After I graduate from my master’s degree at Northeastern University – MS of Leadership with a concentration in Nonprofit Management – I will start my own nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization will focus on helping animals, dogs and cats, in the healthcare field. I will create this nonprofit organization in the Middle East as I am moving to Saudi Arabic right after I graduate, next year.
As we mentioned in last discussion post, as follows are the six mega trends: “Globalization 2.0”, “Environmental crisis”, “Demographic Change”, “Individualism”, “Digitization”, and “Technology Convergence” (2014, Consultancy.uk). I will reflect on my current situation right now and the future in relation to the NPO I will create.
Strengths
“Digitation”: Due to Covid-19, now all my classes are online. Thanks to technology, I am able to keep studying and pursuing my masters degree.
“Individualism”: Due to the current world situation and staying at home, I have learned to distract myself by learning new things and forming my opinions about the current events.
“Globalization 2.0”: – Due to “globalization”, AMAZON and many other companies are able to help people and governments get supplies for the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
– In relation to my future NPO, I will be able to get supplies from other countries and many companies due to “globalization”.
Weaknesses
“Demographic Changes”: Helping animals is hard because some countries have different laws and that is a weakness. I do not agree with many laws but hopefully my NPO will bring awareness.
Opportunities
“Individualism”: – Due to Covid-19, I have spent all my time at home. I have had the opportunity to spend time on things that I usually do not have time for. As follows are some of the things that I am doing: studying Arabic, gardening in my apartment and trying new recipes.
– Creating this nonprofit organization really portrays how much I love animals and how important it is to protect them from danger and provide them with what they need.
“Digitation”: – Thanks to technology, and that I have now more time to speak to my family members, I call my family every day. My family lives in France and Colombia; therefore, I call both countries every day and make sure they are okay.
– I will be able to bring awareness to many countries and people with my NPO. This will help me make a change to help animals.
“Technology convergence”: – Due to more time, I have learned how to use new applications and spend time online. I have learned new skills on certain applications; ex: video editing.
Threats
“Environmental crisis”: – The environmental crisis could affect the number of volunteers, donors and the success of my future NPO to helping animals.
– The environmental crisis right now is affecting me by not being able to be close to my family.
