Root Causes of Displacement Case Study
Identify and describe at least two of the major root causes of displacement in Asia. How are these root causes similar to or different from causes of displacement in Africa?
Students will a) respond to the discussion prompt with one original response (250-350 words) and b) also respond to at least one original post from another student in a substantive manner (100-150 words). By substantive, I mean more than “I agree” or “that’s interesting.” I want you to elaborate: what do you agree with, and why? What specifically is interesting, and why do you think that?
Root Causes of Displacement Case Study
Two major root causes for displacement in Asia is violence/ war and economic/ labor. Violence/ war may have to do with the religion influence that covers Asia. Asia has a diversity of religions such as Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and tribal religions.

Often these divisions of religion correlate with political divisions. This can result in violence or war between political entities or the spread of a religious following. There are several groups of Asian refugees who are known as “armed warriors” who have become insurgent groups.

Economics/ labor is another major root cause for displacement. Non-skilled and highly skilled workers migrant back and forth borders throughout Asia. Poor economic countries send labor to industrial countries. However, some companies who need labor relocate a part of their business where labor is found. This is an example of what we learned about earlier in the semester, the “push-pull” factor. Many of these migrants work illegally.

Many Asia migrants have looked to the Middle East for employment. While I was stationed in UAE, we saw Third Country Nationals from Asian countries such as Pakistan and India, who stayed in company compounds where they basically lived and took buses to work.

Violence/ war and Economic/ labor effects are found everywhere. What makes Asia displacement from African displacement is that European countries have not been a big influence on the violence. In Asia, it is mostly religion and regional politics. Africa and Asia are similar when it comes to Economic/ labor. Within the poor regions, many people displace themselves to find better opportunities.
Root Causes of Displacement Case Study
Hello,
I enjoyed reading your explanation of the root causes behind the displacement in Asia. I found the same reasons in my response as well to this discussion. I agree with your claim that there are many different religions in Asia and hence, sometimes it is hard for people to see eye-to-eye on matters. I believe that people need to come to respect every religion and not consider one religion superior to the other and that could help diminish the problem of displacement in Asia. Your second reason is also very well-developed and I love how to connect the topic to the “push-pull factor” that we learned earlier this semester. When I visited UAE, I too saw many migrant workers from the Indian subcontinent. I believe that this has all got to do with looking for “better” opportunities.
