The client/professional relationship is unique and can be complex, there are ethical boundaries and practices set forth to protect
both parties in this relationship. For example, situations that contain certain forms of boundary-crossing and dual relationships
may not always be unethical. The ACA and APA Code of Ethics have decision-making models that help the MHP make the best
decision if applied properly (Vietze et al., 2017). The APA provides five foundational qualities for a MHP to have in their decision-
making tool kit. These qualities are autonomy, justice, beneficence, nonmaleficence and fidelity (Forester-Miller & Davis).
As a MHP, I must be tenacious in making sure that relationships with my clients are only for the benefit of the client and not self-

serving. If I use the ACA guidelines and apply their code of ethical decision-making, it will be difficult not to see that the way I
approach my clients could have damaging effects on the MHP and/or the client.

Ethics refers to the code of thinking and behavior directed by a mixture of personal, moral, legal, and social values; and the way we
consider the actions to be correct or acceptable. The concept of ethics varies with situations, circumstances, and cultures. In the
context of a community, intervention ethics involves the guiding principles that res used to monitor community activists and service
providers meet the greater good of the society rather than focusing on the profit (ACA Code of Ethics, 2014). Due to the fact of
benefiting the society as whole the ethical considerations during community interventions are the focal point.

Ethics are the guidelines that are set by society for an individual. In other words, ethics can be defined as a set of rules formulated
by community leader or elders; Ethics are mainly based on the moral values of a society (Aravind, Krishnaram, & Thasneem, 2012)
Laws are the form of the moral reflective values and interests of society. The legal systems put the moral values of members of the
public into laws to decide the type of behavior deemed acceptable and desirable in that society (Aravind, Krishnaram, & Thasneem,
2012). These concepts of values, morals, law, and ethics have played an important guiding role in my professional and personal life
as well as me being a contributing member of society. Personally, I don’t think using a mobile phone while driving is an appropriate
thing to do as it leads to dictating driving. For example, while driving using a cell phone is unlawful as well as unethical, but an
individual might have different values. Practitioner’s Guide to Ethical Decision Making Essay
