This project is intended to assist you in preparing for the midterm exam by allowing you to think on how communication has influenced your identity and personal culture. We’ve discussed how humans create patterns of interaction together throughout the semester’s five lessons: how technology shapes our understandings of self, other, and society (Lesson 1); the role of language in (re)producing these patterns (Lesson 2); how these patterns produce a multitude of cultures and privilege (Lesson 3); and how communication shapes our sense of self, self-presentation, and identity (Lesson 4).
(Lessons 4 and 5).
Your task is to connect two of the five course ideas to your own sense of identity or personal culture. You may choose any area of your identity or personal culture to focus on, but you must use at least two course themes from distinct lessons. A notion can be derived from any course texts and/or interactive lessons, and it should be a clearly recognized concept that is fully described, referenced, and applied in your daily life.
If you’re unsure whether the topics you want to write about will work, inform your instructor no later than a week before the post is due so you have plenty of time to compose it, spell- and grammar-check it, and correctly credit all sources. Emailing during the week before the post due date demonstrates a lack of preparation on your part, and if you wait until the week of or two days before the due date to compose your post, the instructor may not be able to answer in a timely manner.
Two course principles from the previous five classes must be applied. You should not use two concepts from the same lesson.
