Health Care Immigrants and Minorities Discussion Response
The population I am working with has to do with either undocumented or the lower-income section of minority groups. The majority of the
population either cannot afford healthcare or is not able to receive healthcare. The division of policy and data is responsible for developing
different health policies as well as initiatives that have to do with addressing the illumination of health disparities and advancing health equity
(U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, 2020). The division of policy and data tries to implement strategic plans
as well as different initiatives and policy studies to analyze and improve the data availability and quality for minority populations (U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, 2020). This is done through the implementation of strategic plans, for example, the HHS
Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, 2020). They
also coordinate special initiatives, including healthy people 2020, White House initiatives that have to do with minority-serving institutions,
educational excellence, Promotores de Salud, Walgreen’s co-sponsorship, and many more (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office
of Minority Health, 2020). If I was tasked to do something that had to improve the type of healthcare that illegal immigrants, as well as those who
cannot afford healthcare, this would be a challenge for me. In my opinion, I just think it will be difficult to get anything from the federal government
in order to help this population. I feel that our government doesn’t want to put in the effort, time, and especially money into helping those who are
not United States citizens. What I think they should be helping with are the lower-income minority groups that cannot afford healthcare that needs
healthcare. I think to take on this task. I would need a lot of patience as well as a lot of time because I know that this is going to be a lengthy
process.
First off, we need to understand what policy evaluation is. This has to do with principles as well as different methods in order to examine the
continent and the implementation/impact of a policy (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). I think a benefit to this is that it involves
everyone and everything you’re working with. For example, it has to do with engaging stakeholders, describing the program, focusing on the
evaluation design, gathering credible evidence, justifying conclusions, as well as ensuring the use and the shared lessons learned (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). This is a cycle because you need one in order to look at the other. I also think it’s important because it has to
do with developing and implementing the different policy strategies. I think this is important when it comes to addressing any injury and violence
prevention at the population or community level (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). The purpose for this kind of evaluation has to
do with documenting policy developments, informing implementation, demonstrating the impact of the value of a policy, informing future policies,
and much more (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). A question I have is what are the minimum requirements we need to have in
order to be able to get illegal immigrants that have been here for years some kind of health policy. The other question I have is, what are the
minimum requirements for those in low-income minority groups? If we can set up these requirements, then we should be able to figure something
out.
