HA255: Human Resources for Healthcare Organization
CLASSMATE POST #1
What is the purpose of law for human resources management in health services organizations?
Laws for human resources management in health services organizations are a part of business necessity. Business necessities are required for safe and efficient business operations (Flynn, 2014). Without laws, businesses
would lack structure. Organizations would most likely struggle to keep employees because there would be no safety, discrimination, labor, or other types of rules and regulations in place to protect employees.
What are the three most important legal issues in human resources management? HA 255 Human Resources for Healthcare Organizations Responses
Three important legal issues in human resource management are safety, health, and security. Safety refers to protecting the physical well-being of individuals. Health relates to a status of physical, mental, and emotional well-
being. Security means protecting everyone within the organization including employees, patients, and visitors (Flynn, 2014). Human Resource managers, however, are not solely responsible for these issues. Other forms of
management should aid in enforcing rules, regulations, and practices that prevent issues in the three areas. For instance, patient safety is everyone’s responsibility. If someone happens to witness abuse of a patient, visitor, or
employee, it is that person’s responsibility, regardless of their title, to report the abuse immediately. This is necessary for the safety of the organization and those affiliated with it. Other forms of management can help out as well
by educating employees on infection control and prevention, and making sure PPE is available at all times if needed to protect employees’ health. HA 255 Human Resources for Healthcare Organizations Responses
What will you do as a manager about the three issues’ respective importance? HA 255 Human Resources for Healthcare Organizations Responses
As a manager I will ensure that all employees are educated and trained in the areas of health, safety, and security. I will implement emergency and disaster plans. I will make sure policies and procedures relating to infection
prevention and control are being followed. I will make sure employees are aware of where safety-related materials are such as fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) information are
located and understand how to use them. As a manager I believe paying attention to employee behavior is important when trying to stay on top of workplace issues. For instance, noticing when an employee seems burnt out and
making efforts to prevent burnout could prevent workplace injury, abuse, and help keep employees in a healthy state of well-being. I believe that listening to employees concerns about health, safety, and security, investigating
their claims, then acting accordingly would be an important step to take as well. HA 255 Human Resources for Healthcare Organizations Responses

CLASSMATE POST #2
Good evening, Class,
What is the purpose of law for human resources management in health services organizations? HA 255 Human Resources for Healthcare Organizations Responses
The main purpose of HRM is to “maximize the productivity of an organization by optimizing the effectiveness of its employees.” (US Legal, Inc, N.D.) There are three main responsibilities in HRM an they are “staffing, employee
compensation and benefits, and defining/designing work.” (US Legal, Inc, N.D.)
What are the three most important legal issues in human resources management?
There are many important legal issues in human resource management. After doing some research I found that the top three continued to be confidentiality, discrimination, and harassment. They each face their issues but I want
to touch on discrimination as well as favoritism. When working in HRM we have to ensure that everyone is treated equally from the time the hiring process begins until they are no longer associated with the establishment. It is
our job to ensure all employees have the proper training on how to address these types of situations and how to avoid them altogether. “It is HR’s legal responsibility to ensure that management practices are fair.” (Chrisos, 2019)
Outline the importance of an emergency management plan specific to emergency and disaster management.
Having a plan in place before an emergency or disaster is key to things going better than they would if your establishment did not have one. People tend to act more erratic an unreasonable in these situations and having a plan in
place an someone designated to facilitate the plan. I found that OSHA.gov has an amazing resource that tells exactly what needs to be in an emergency management place.
What will you do as a manager about the three issues’ respective importance?
As an HRM it would be my job to ensure that screening begins at the application level. What I mean by this is ensuring background checks are done and reference checks. Once employees are hired there would be mandatory
training on all three issues as well as quarterly refresher courses. All three, in my opinion, should be one strike your out-type deal. There will be a no-tolerance policy a by enforcing this we show we mean business but also that we
value our employees and our patients when it comes to confidentiality.
I look forward to hearing back from you all. Happy Valentine’s Day.

HI135: Legal Aspects of Health Information
CLASSMATE POST #3
Advance directives are legal documents that allow someone to relay their decisions to their family, friends, and healthcare providers about end-of-life measures if they become incapacitated. Advance directives help in avoiding any miscommunication when the time comes (Melanie, 2017).
Power of Attorney (POA): a legal document that gives a person that you choose the power to act on your behalf.
Pros: it is inexpensive, convenient, and you can control the decisions that someone can make for you and you can decide who will make those decisions.
Cons: Ends at the time of death, no one is overseeing the actions of the POA if you become unable to communicate, may not be accepted by some banks or credit unions (Melanie, 2017).
Do Not Resuscitate (DNR): this order is made by a person to inform doctors and medical staff to not perform CPR if cardiac arrest happens.
Pros: leaves no room for guessing because you are letting nature take its course and the order can be reversed at any time (Melanie, 2017).

There are three types of Advances Directives Durable Power of Attorney, Living Will, or Health care Surrogate. These Advances directives all have their differences in pros and cons, but each is crucial to have. The Durable Power
of Attorney is a document that will give someones else the power to make decisions for you. With this document, you have to be smart with your choice because the person should be acting in your best interest. You will need to
select someone that you trust, and that will loyally follow out your wishes. Living Will is a document that is provided when you are unable to make decisions for yourself due to health issues. The Health Care Surrogate is also
known as a Health Care Power of Attorney, which is giving someone else the power to make the decision about any illness situations when you are unable to provide information. Living Will is something your health care provider
and family will have so they know the way you’d like to die. This document also states if you want food, water, or medication to ease the process.
Therefore, in my situation right now I don’t see the need to have any Advance Directives. I believe once I get older and start noticing my health condition chance then ill start. I think when you plan too much ahead of life you are living, you’re just working.
