The final research essay for this course will examine the findings of Congress’s Cox Committee study on the PRC’s threat. Your task begins with a review of the Cox Report (start early because it is lengthy) to determine the descriptive, explanatory, and predictive analytical methodologies employed by the Cox Committee, IC, and CRS to arrive at the report’s conclusions on the PRC’s intelligence threat. Your task is to describe the various analytical approaches that have been applied. Examples from the Cox Report should be utilized to back up your discussion of the procedures used. Finally, a discussion of the policy and operational actions made as a result of this counterintelligence study of the PRC’s threat must be included in your assignment.
The goal of this project is for you to learn how to use counterintelligence analysis.
This course was developed as a follow-on to INTL300 Research Methods, according to the original course creator. As a result, you were expected to bring knowledge of the three analytical methodologies described above from your previous/previous participation in INTL300. If you are unfamiliar with these techniques, I am including a CIA reference document titled “Tradecraft Primer – Structured Analytic Techniques for Improving Intelligence Analysis,” dated April 2009, in the class’ Resources. If you are familiar with the three ways stated above, feel free to use them in the assignment, or any one or combination of methods from this primer.
