Fetal Abnormality as a Case Study
Human nature is a collection of traits that collectively define what it means to be a human being (White, 2020). Every human being is a part of God’s creation, made in his or her likeness and image, according to the Christian view of human nature. This notion is similar to the Latin phrase Imago Dei, which means “image of God.” This idea refers to human individuals’ intrinsic worth, dignity, and respect, as well as their value and worth, regardless of their ability. “The Hypothesis Based on Human Properties” is the theory that most closely resembles Christian beliefs. Human beings are fundamentally valued in this style of thinking, regardless of any external advantages or valuations (White, 2020). Christians believe that humans have a moral obligation to live and act in a moral manner. Human dignity as a mirror of God’s image is recognized and valued. Abortion, euthanasia, and genocide, on the other hand, are regarded immoral and not of God, and hence do not reflect Christian values.Jessica, a 30-year-old Mexican immigrant, and her husband, Marcos, share an all-too-real life-altering circumstance that many Christians have experienced. Initially, the thrill of receiving a divine blessing, but ultimately, a parent’s horror. Jessica and Marco are confronted with a difficult choice. They must decide whether to continue a pregnancy that is expected to result in the birth of a fetus with a rare disease that prevents the arms from developing and a 25% probability of having Down syndrome. With his scientific understanding, he can calculate the likelihood of the fetus’s survival. In doing so, the physician Dr Wilson uses “The Theory of Sentience” to determine the moral status of the fetus. He is aware of the future sorrow, pain, and suffering that this kid will endure. He carefully informs Jessica of the prognosis while drawing a clear medical picture of the possibilities, understanding how delicate this issue is. Having an abortion or giving birth to a child with no quality of life. Aunt Maria, on the other hand, is vehemently arguing for the fetus’s life, citing “The Theory Based on Human Properties.” She sees the fetus as a part of God’s plan, pleading with God to “let what God intends to happen.” Whether or not the fetus is born with problems, all humans have inherent worth (White, 2020). Jessica and Marco, though, have the final say. Jessica is divided between her desire for increasing freedom and a better financial position (GCU, 2020). She uses “The Theory Based on Human Properties” to explain the fetus’ fate. She understands that “every life is sacred,” but she and her family need more financial security. Marco, being the pragmatic male species that he is, employs “The Cognitive Properties Theory.” Financial concerns/burdens are inherently a major issue for him as the leader of the household. Marco is finding it difficult not to see the pregnancy and the chance of a disabled kid as a burden and an obstacle to their economic security and aspirations, despite his support for Jessica’s decision (GCU, 2020).
Christians abhor abortion and believe that all human lives are valuable from conception onward (White, 2020). Yes, I think humans were created in God’s image and likeness. God does not create mistakes, and You can accomplish all things through Christ, who strengthens me. The resources and strategy for raising this child are already written in the Bible. The bible also mentions God bestowing the gift of choice on humans. The ability to test for birth abnormalities using fetal tissue can be both a blessing and a curse. I’d have to use “The Theory Based on Cognitive Properties” to justify my position. It’s difficult enough to become a new mom. When economics, limitations, and a loss of freedom are added, resentment, remorse, despair, and sadness can result. This theory informs my decision to terminate the pregnancy, which is in line with this thought. Just because I choose the Cognitive Properties theory doesn’t mean I believe the unborn has no moral status. It just implies that I am glad for the opportunity to choose. I have access to the information and decision-making abilities I need to make an informed decision that will have a positive or negative impact on my family. Consider this scenario: a passerby notifies you that you will prevent a four-year-old from dying after being hit by a car tomorrow. However, you will be raped by two men on your way home after that incident and will be hospitalized for a month. Which logic would you employ in determining the moral position of the four-year-old and yourself?
