Analysis of Challenges President Obama Faced Essay
The tenure of President Obama cannot go unrecognized due to some of the legacies that he left behind, even though several challenges were faced. President Obama faced a great challenge during his rule and some of these challenges were related to the fight against terrorism which was not just a problem to the United States but also the entire nations of the world.
The most targeted areas were American embassies. Another great challenge was related to the economy since he became the president when the country was under an upsetting economic status because of the great recession. Despite these challenges, he managed to overcome most of them thus leaving legacies that cannot be easily forgotten.
The counterterrorism Strategies
One of the nations that benefited from the efforts that were made by President Obama towards the fight against terrorism was Afghanistan. Through working together with the government in these nations, he managed to assist the nations which were affected by the terrorist acts to have peace. The main objective while assisting in the fight against terrorism was to promote good leadership and authority to the citizens of these nations (Cutler, 2017).
The Foreign Policy and Appraisal Policy
One of the major achievements during his tenure was to boost the relationships with other nations that were previously considered to be the enemies of the United States. Through this relationship, he promoted the international agreement that assisted in slowing down the efforts that were made by Iran towards developing nuclear.
He also succeeded in normalizing the diplomacy in Cuba. The progress in the foreign policy was successful as compared to the previous tenure under the leadership of President George W. Bush (Unger, 2016). One of the strategies adopted by President Obama on diplomacy was based on a unilateral strategy.
Through using this strategy, he fruitfully signed the foreign policies, for example, the Paris Agreement which was based on the climatic change as well as the Trans-pacific Partnership (Bose, 2019).
Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF)
Under the leadership of President Barack Obama, AUMF succeeded in killing Osama Bin Laden who was the senior leader of Al Qaeda. He used the AUMF to ensure that there was the detention of the terrorists. Through using the AUMF, he succeeded in using the American military-operated against the Islamic State that appeared to be supporting the terrorism activities.
During his tenure, he used AUMF as the most important lawful basis under domestic law thus helping him to kill Al Qaeda leader (Bradley & Goldsmith, 2016).
Public Diplomacy and Strategic Communication
During his presidency, there were major advancements that were made in public diplomacy. Through relying on internet technology, he managed to connect with the ordinary citizens outside the United States and this enabled him to maintain the liberal responses in Russia.
He used the local bloggers to ensure that there is successful dissemination of the anti-ISIL information on behalf of the government (Tsvetkova, Rushchin, Shiryaev, Yarygin, & Tsetkov, 2020).
The global warming
Some programs were used by President Obama to influence the protection of the environment. During his leadership, he ensured that there was the existence of the program to help in most of the industries was switching to natural gas and ensuring that each state in the country is achieving a 30 percent decrease in power production sites.
The global warming caused by the gases produced by the industries is causing a major concern towards fighting against the climatic change in the entire world. President Obama acknowledged this issue and made an effort towards ensuring that industries in every state generated the gases based on the recommended amount (Gonzalez, 2019).
Reforms in the Criminal Justice system
One of the major achievements of President Obama in criminal justice was the ability to double down on the criminal justice reform. In this reformation, the rate of incarceration reduced by 5 percent after increasing higher for several years.
During his tenure, clemency was issued and this led to the release of more than 1000 prisoners. This helped in the reduction of the growing number of individuals being incarcerated (White, 2017).
Obama Healthcare
During his tenure, President Obama introduced the ACA of 2010. The ACA has led to the revolution of the health insurance industry. This Act led to an increase in the premiums, deductibles. There are provisions in the ACA that have resulted in health payers spending more to pay for the healthcare services amongst the ill population.
This means that healthcare facilities and the healthcare professionals at the emergency departments are not necessarily required to take part in the management of much-uncompensated care. This is basically due to the expansion of the Medicaid program and the individual mandate.
The ACA has introduced the requirement that health plans to help in the full coverage of preventive services like cancer screenings and immunizations. The ACA has also led to invest in scale by some of the insurers (Quadagno & Lanford, 2019).
