What is osteoporosis? according to Falkner & Green (2018), the wear and tear of synovial joints, mainly through repeated actions, result in the degeneration of the protective cartilage at the junction of two bones known is known as osteoarthritis (OA) or degenerative joint disease (DJD). Osteoporosis is a condition of decreased bone mineral density making the bone porous and increasing the risk of fractures. The normal storage of minerals is part of the structural integrity of the bone. Over time, minerals are lost, causing the bone to become thinner, weaker, and prone to fractures. Osteoporosis is the most common disease affecting the bones. Risk factors for osteoporosis include: Family history, increased age, gender, early menopause, obesity, poor diet, life style (Huether E al., 2017; Lewis et al., 2017). Nurses have a major role in prevention, assessment, and teaching related to osteoporosis.
